12 Sessions Brought to you by SSWUG.ORG

Course Overview

When working with SQL Server, as with any relational database, data is king. But data becomes less useful if you can’t gain access to it in a timely fashion. With so much data, being able to spread information across multiple servers allows for backup and quicker access. Replication is a technology available in SQL Server that facilitates the copying of data from one database to another in order to spread out load or provide redundant copies of data for high availability solutions.

This Virtual Class, delivered by Microsoft SQL Server MVP Eric Johnson, will guide you into the world of SQL Server Replication. The class will start at the very basics of what replication is and the different types and topologies of replication that are common in today’s environments. It will then progress to more advanced topics such as Merge Replication and using Transactional Replication as a High Availability solution. The goal of the course is to take you from never having used Replication to being competent with the technology, and provide you with a solid base of knowledge on which to implement these solutions.

You'll learn what Replication is and how Replication can be used to create reporting and highly available environments. We will cover all types of replication and ensure that you know when each type is appropriate to implement.

The class will also explore more advanced aspects of Replication such as peer-to-peer and updating subscriber replications. We will also look at troubleshooting and optimizing replication. By the end of the class you should be able to select, build, and maintain a replication environment and have a solid foundation of knowledge to draw on when things don’t go as planned.

Eric has worked with all types of Replication since SQL Server 6.5. He is bringing his experiences and frustrations to you so that you can learn Replication quickly and correctly.

Leadership Skills for the IT Professional
By Kevin Kline
(Show Details)

Hitting the Career IT Ceiling

There comes a point in the career of most IT Professionals that advancement means taking on at least some degree of leadership in their organization. The only problem is that most IT pros built their career and earned all of their accolades on a set of technology skills that aren’t transferrable into leading people and managing resources.

What IT Pros Need to Be Effective Leaders

Most IT leaders earned their promotions on the basis of their technical competency, not their leadership skills. Technical leaders rarely step into leadership in possession of the complex mix of skills that engenders their success and the success of their teams. And while the results of this career transition aren’t always a disaster, we’re often left feeling that we could be doing a much better job.

This full day training seminar imparts years of hard won wisdom and the industry’s best research about how to successfully manage and lead a team of IT professionals, from all areas of information technology. Successful IT leaders require a combination of:

  • Cultivating the respect and trust of your team;
  • Behavioral knowledge to understand technology professionals; and
  • A variety of specific skills to competently lead IT professionals in the broad categories of:
    • coaching
    • facilitating change
    • promoting communication
    • growing a culture of effectiveness
    • leading teams

Develop Critical IT Leadership Skills in a Class Written by IT Leaders for IT Leaders

I have to be honest, my custom-written training coursework won’t train IT pros in every aspect of every leadership category. (Heck, an MBA takes at least two years of intense study and even that doesn’t guarantee a strong leader). However, my coursework will equip you with a strong foundation to confidently take on your leadership duties, handle the most common leadership issues, and avoid the most frequent and costly leadership mistakes. This coursework will enable you to further develop your leadership potential and achieve excellent results, both for yourself and for your team.

By taking this course, you will:

  1. Learn about motivating IT professionals and how to cultivate an atmosphere for effectiveness.

  2. Develop skills to envision, plan, and execute your goals at an interpersonal and organization level

  3. Review more than a dozen specific scenarios that frequently foil the new leader of IT teams and the best way to handle them, such as
    Exposing and correcting performance problems
    Managing remote employees
Gaining support of the organizational executives
    Delegation
    Conducting impactful meetings
    Facilitating effective and productive teamwork

SSWUG.org is gathering top notch speakers to offer you nearly 20 sessions over 3 days.  We're bringing you great how-to information and real-world solutions on everything from SQL Server, SharePoint, Business Intelligence, Security, Cloud and Development.

At the SSWUG SUMMER CAMP event, you'll have access to the video sessions right at your computer.  Because we know your time is tight, we're making all the sessions available on demand for 30 days after the live event so you can catch what you missed or rewatch to catch any missed details!

However, you don't want to miss the live portion.  A great feature of these events is the live interaction with the presenters themselves.  Presenters will be in live chat or in the session forums to discuss any questions you may have during each session, so you can get the most from the event.

If you've never experienced a SSWUG virtual conference, now's your chance!  Register today.

Event Registration costs $150 for non members and $120 for full SSWUG members. It's FREE (included) with an active Class Pass, too!

On July 9th, 10th, and 11th, we'll be bringing you sessions, information, interactive Q&A and much more - all related directly to the technologies you want to learn about. Find out about the cloud and how it impacts your systems. Learn about options for deploying outstanding information systems. See what you need to know and understand when it comes to administration of your systems.

We'll be bringing you high quality, large format presentations. You'll have access to Microsoft MVPs, book authors, industry experts, bloggers and more. Learn from the best, about the things that matter most. We'll be working with SQL Server, SharePoint, the Cloud, Big Data, .Net and more.
