A lot of times when there is an error in the middle of the night, the chances are that the DBA did not author the failing process and therefore will not know exactly how to resolve the issue. If all error alerts are sent to the DBA for distribution that’s a little disrespectful! Why not let the DBA get a couple extra winks of sleep by sending the alert to the team or resource responsible for determining the best resolution of issue? Once the resolution is determined the responsible team should then contact the DBA on-call resource (if needed) to coordinate the resolution of the error.
