Product Reviews
This page contains important information about our review process - please read carefully.
SSWUG.ORG is interested in reviewing your product, book, idea or other tools and techniques compatible with the content and
readership of SSWUG.org's community. We'd be interested in doing a review, complete with our rating and recommendations on your product.
Our reviews are subject to technical and english edits, but not for style - style is determined by the reviewer or reviewers assigned
to look at your product. We work very hard to provide objective, clear, concise and complete reviews, and we also work to make sure we
extend beyond the "wow, this is a great product" and into the world of "here's good information about this product, here's what we see as
the strong points (if any), the weak points (if any) and the in-between points (if any)."
You do NOT have to be a sponsor of the site to get a product reviewed.
To submit your product for review, you'll need to do the following:
- If your product is a program, provide a fully-licensed copy of your program. No time locks. No functionality locks. Sorry, no exceptions. What we review MUST be
the exact same thing as a fully-licensed product that you would be selling to someone based on our review. If this is a problem, please
contact us. Yes, we realize that time-locked product potentially has the same functionality as fully-licensed code however, we have experienced
cases where this is not true, and we will not review software that is not fully licensed. We are not in the business of pirating your software,
we won't give out keys, and we are under strict NDA and confidentiality on this point with all reviewers to ensure the protection of your
intellectual property.
- If your product is a book, please send one copy to the address shown below. It will be sent to the reviewer at our cost if they are
not local. Books cannot be returned.
We will assure a fair, competent review. You will be given a chance to preview the article prior to publication and provide any feedback,
ideas, clarification you wish. This is a review though, and the article's author and SSWUG.ORG has final say in what is included, what is not.
It's best if, during the review, and accompanying the initial product for review, you provide a technical and a PR contact in case any
questions come up during the review.
The time to complete the review depends on a number of issues, the most significant of which is the complexity of your product, and any system requirements
that you have that we need to be able to fulfill to review your product. The more "unique" your requirements, the more difficult it will be
to perform the review. The other factor involved relates to the current editorial workload - which is just a luck of the draw. It's best to
submit your product as soon as possible, then work with us to get the review completed as soon as possible, given the other factors.
Please Note:
We are constantly receiving items for review - from books to software to other web sites and just about everything
in between. We'll do our best to address reviews we think most pertinent to the SSWUG audience, and those that we can do justice to in
terms of a lab environment. Clearly we cannot guarantee a review, and timing is heavily dependent on editorial calendars, workload, other
reviews requested and applicability to both our lab environment and the user community here at SSWUG.
DO NOT be offended if you don't hear back or it takes time to consider your product. This doesn't mean we're not interested, it means
that we've received your request and that if we have questions or comments, we'll surely let you know. Feel free to contact us, but
please do understand the workload for a given review may either preclude us from doing it or make it such that it may take some time to
be able to get to the review.
We are very interested in seeing your product or offering, but want to be clear about timing expectations. If you have a particular time-
frame in mind that you need to have the review completed within, please be sure to indicate it in your request. This doesn't mean that we'll
be automatically committed to that timeframe, but it does mean that we'll know you have other factors that you're working with and we'll
see if we can make it work with other scheduling concerns.
We cannot promise to review each and every product, service, idea or concept we receive. Sorry, but the volume of submissions simply
precludes us from doing so. Please do not submit incomplete products, or concepts. If the general population is not able to use your
product, it's likely we won't be able to complete the review, since we're here to let others know about our experiences with your product
so they can make up their minds to further investigate it.
We are NOT trying to pursuade you not to submit your product or service for consideration - just being up-front about the process.

After your product is reviewed, if you're interested in linking to the product review from your website, please contact us. We will set up the review
so that anyone linking in from your site will be able to read the review, regardless of whether they are a member of SSWUG.ORG.
Please note: when your product is reviewed, it may also be used in presentations as different reviewers are responsible for local user
group meetings, conference presentations, etc. We are not trying to be overly aggressive on the licensing requirement, we simply must make
sure that reviewers and presenters are first showing accurately what the customer will use, and second should the software be used in a presentation,
that the presenter is not working with trial ware or expired software.
If you need your product returned to you, please work with us to arrange a pickup with the a carrier of your choice. The costs of returning the
item are the responsibility of the vendor. Products not requested to be returned may be offered in SSWUG drawings or used by the author. Please
be sure to request that your product is returned at the time you submit it for review.
If you're interested in a specific person reviewing your product, please be sure to tell us that! We'll do our best, but cannot guarantee that a specific
author can complete a review (especially difficult to estimate timing).
