 Article Abstract:

Many times a question regrading "database stats" pops up and remind me how non-trivial this all mechanism is. The fact that different database vendors chose different implementations for similar functionality do not help either.
In the following paragraphs I will cover the SQL Server and Oracle implementations for database statistics and try to make things clearer in this area.
