(Cyrus Peikari and Seth Fogie) The proper implementation of Security and Electronic Signature Standards (SESS) requires a formal and procedural approach. This is accomplished by creating a series of comprehensive policies that address the many security issues facing your organization. From the initial security assessment to the final maintenance plan, each regulation, standard, guideline, and procedure should be outlined by a policy. This not only provides future policy implementers with a guide to create their standards and guidelines, but it also helps your organization's administrators develop their personal and explicit instructions to help them meet the business goals of the policy. In addition, a properly documented policy can also become a point of reference in case a violation occurs that results in a dismissal or other penalty. The following is an outline of the major security items that must be addressed by a policy. This list is not comprehensive and will vary depending upon your organization's specific needs.
