 Article Abstract:

(Bishwaranjan Bhattacharjee, Sriram Padmanabhan, Timothy Malkemus, Tony Lai, Leslie Cranston and Matthew Huras) IBM's DB2 Universal Database version 8 for Unix, Windows, and open platforms introduces a new feature called Multi-Dimensional Clustering (MDC). Multi-Dimensional Clustering provides a flexible and orthogonal physical clustering organization for a relational table using one or more attributes of the table as dimensions of clustering. We have described the overview of MDC - including how the clustering is maintained over time. In this paper, we report on the query processing enhancements to DB2 for processing MDC tables efficiently.
