When you are working with TSQL-based UDFs your code gets interpreted and you only have access to the SQL Server functions and routines for assisting you in your algorithm work. So as you can see, CLR Integration provides us with benefits or "extensions" over traditional TSQL when used appropriately. This article goes into some of the benefits of using CLR Integration in your development efforts.
