Use a Grouping Table To Optimized Date Based Queries


 Article Abstract:

(Ben Taylor) Many database systems contain data captured over a period of time. Frequently reports are produced that are intended to allow for statistical analysis of the activity, trends or maybe even an aggregation of the detail for data mining or executive reporting. As a result database programmers are frequently required to group data into one or more logical periods for reporting or data mining purposes. The number of grouping options possible are virtually limitless. In this case use a Grouping table.

excellent explanation and script what would have been better is if the grouping table could be dynamiclly populated based on the period availbe in the sales table.
